Vygon Pellethane® umbilical catheters are very biocompatible and much stronger than silicone rubber. Pellethane® is a new generation of polyurethane, specifically developed to outperform other catheter materials. Pellethane® is firm enough to overcome vasospasm, yet is thermosensitive,to soften significantly once inserted. Under magnification, Pellethane® can be seen to be free of the surface irregularities normally found in other catheter materials, including other polyurethanes. This minimizes protein and platelet adhesion, which can lead to fibrin and thrombus formation.
Both our single and dual lumen catheters are fully x-ray opaque,with numerical markings for easier placement. Our single lumen catheters come with a stopcock which has colored tabs, red and blue, so that the catheters may be color-coded, red for arterial and blue for venous. Our dual lumen versions allow for infusion of non-compatible solutions through the off-set eyes, or for continuous infusions through the distal lumen with simultaneous blood draw capability through the proximal lumen. |
